Our history as a family business

Tonga is a family business. Literally, and in spirit! When you’re a part of Tonga, you’re part of the family. Whether you’re a business relation or working within the Tonga team.

The company is run by sisters Melanie and Stephanie de Jonge. They’ve worked within Tonga – which their father founded in the late nineties – for the past 20 years.

At Tonga, we believe in treating others with respect. In being proud of what we do. In truly standing for something, and always looking ahead. These some of the are values that Melanie and Stephanie’s father instilled in them. Now the sisters run the company independently. Using their own, unique vision as a compass.

Much has changed since the early years of Tonga. And Melanie and Stephanie are determined to create an even brighter future for their business, and the industry at large!

With sisters Melanie and Stephanie at the helm, Tonga is the only female-run distributor in Europe. With more and more women entering the target market, a female view of the industry has become more than just valuable. It’s necessary to thrive.

With more than 25 years of experience, we’ve seen the changes the industry has gone through first-hand. Gone are the days of sneaking into a sex shop to score an X-rated DVD, hiding it under a coat. The erotic industry is not what it used to be. And thank goodness for that!
